Currently based in Hong Kong, Evan Roth is an American artist with a focus in technology, tools of empowerment, open source, and popular culture.  He is also the co-founder of Graffiti Research Lab and F.A.T. (Free Art & Technology), a R&D lab for the public domain.

Over the last five years, he has been pairing typefaces with music to create stunning portraits through a process he refers to as typographic illustration.  After selecting a font, he layers thousands of letters on top of one another until a face emerges.

Evan was recently commissioned to make a video for a new Jay-Z song for RED & the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa.  The song, produced by Kanye West and featuring Santogold, provides the background beats while the letters “Brooklyn” fall into place, creating an image of Jay-Z himself.
